Project 3 — Body type and sport (Grades 4-6)

|

|
Look at the body shapes of athletes in different sports, and you'll see a lot of variation. Gymnasts like Emilie Fournier are usually petite with light muscles, while weight-lifters like Scott McCarthy are much heavier and bulkier. Long-distance marathon runners like Bruce Deacon have a long, lean body shape, but sprinters like Donovan Bailey usually have thicker, more prominent muscles. Why do you think these athletes all have such different bodies? List three sports and the body type associated with them. Why does this body type help athletes in that sport to perform their best? Describe your own body type. Is it lean, bulky, muscular, flexible, tall, strong, or compact? What sports do you think would suit you best? Why?
