Project 1 — What's the best diet? (Grades 4-6, 7-9)

Opinions are always changing on what a healthy diet is all about. A few decades ago, people thought that eating a lot of red meat was good for you, but now many health-conscious consumers choose to avoid it. A lot of people are wondering whether dairy products are really that healthy. Some people find that they are unable to digest lactose, the protein found in milk, and they choose alternatives like soy milk or rice milk instead.
Get into a group, and find out whether any of you are lactose-intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, or real omnivores. How many of you eat according to the laws of your religion? Do you have different opinions about the health benefits of dairy products or other food groups such as meat or carbohydrates? With the help of these websites, debate what you think is the best approach to nutrition. Then design your optimal diet. Plan three day's worth of meals according to this diet. Make sure it's nutritionally sound.
