Warming Up — Being in the zone
When people are in the zone, they lose track of time and have complete focus over whatever they're doing. Anyone can experience it, whether playing an instrument, cooking a meal, painting a landscape or launching a snowboard off a kicker. It's almost like entering a kind of time warp, where nothing else exists.
Have you ever felt this way? What did it feel like? With a partner or group, describe any instances where you have been in the zone. How did it affect your performance? How does thinking about the process instead of the outcome affect your performance? Discuss this quote by David Cox: "Sport is a tough place to be if you're hung up on winning. But it's a beautiful place to be if you're committed to doing the best you can." Could you apply it to any other activities?
