Project 1 — How powerful is the mind-body connection? (Grades 7-9, 10-11)

More and more researchers are beginning to discover just how powerful the mind—body connection is. Studies have shown a strong link between how we feel mentally and emotionally and how healthy our bodies are. For example, people suffering from depression often feel lethargic or fatigued and seem to get more colds and flus than other people, while people who are more optimistic about life appear to have more energy and seem to get fewer illnesses.
Have you ever noticed a link between how you felt emotionally and how you felt physically? Maybe you were stressed about a big exam and got a bad cold or a headache. Or perhaps you had a flu but went to a movie and started to feel better.
Find some scientific studies online that show a connection between our physical, emotional, and psychological health. Try using keywords, like: "emotional trauma and physical illness" or "psychological and physical health."
In a group, discuss how much you believe the mind can influence your physical health. Use the research you found to support your argument.
