You've probably heard people talk about a "mind-body connection" and about how the state of your mind can influence the state of your body. Athletes really want to get that connection working seamlessly, and when it does, magical things can happen. Think of Jamie Salé and David Pelletier's figure skating performance at the 2002 Olympics. It was flawless, and they really seemed to be enjoying themselves. When athletes manage to get their mind and body working together so perfectly, they call this state "the zone."
